Bortex is Malta’s longest established and most respected name in formal men’s tailoring. Maltese entrepreneur Sunny Borg established the company in 1964 as a joint venture with the Dutch Van Gils group, it went from strength to strength as a high quality manufacturer of men’s suits, jackets and trousers, supplying the finest retail brands on the European market place. Over the years Bortex diversified into other product areas such as ladies’ formal garments as well as men’s shirts, accessories and sportswear. It continues to supply the best names on the European high street with private label product as well as providing its own brands or a number of international brands under licence.

Bortex, now manufacturers mainly overseas, retaining Malta as its headquarters. Design, marketing and other knowledge based activities are carrried out on the island. Shipments from Bortex factories in North Africa and Far East transit in Malta on their way to some of Europe’s better-end Department stores, chain store groups and Fashion houses.

In Malta, Bortex operates seven strategically located retail outlets where one can purchase the same superior quality garments at very favourable prices.

The company’s board is now chaired by Karen Bugeja. The other directors are Peter Borg (Managing Director), Karen Bugeja, Sam Borg, Christine Demicoli, Sandra Borg and David Debono.

Generations

The fruit of the initiative of one man, Sunny Borg, Bortex was one of the first export-oriented manufacturing enterprises to be set up in Malta in the early Sixties. Bortex, the name itself is an anagram of ‘Borg’ and ‘textiles’ has been run by the founder’s son Peter since 1990 and recently his own son Sam has also joined the business. Approaching its 50th Anniversary and now into the third generation, Bortex looks to the future with confidence and determination.
